LCD Monitor - Which one to go for ?

by venukb on July 17, 2007

I have been finding my laptop's 15.4" display too small to work on and hence was thinking of buying a Flat Panel LCD monitor. From the past 2 days I have been researching on products from different vendors and I finally ended up in a confused state. At my workplace they have 19 inch Dell monitors (recently widescreen versions also arrived) and these monitors are a treat to work with. So first I went to check on Dell monitors available in India. dell Paul's review of Dell's 30 inch LCD display was also one of the factors for checking out Dell first :) . 17" and 19" inch ...

Sandisk Cruzer Micro

by venukb on July 2, 2007

I have been planning to buy a USB flash drive from quite some time now. My current 256MB flash drive is of no use in the sense that it runs out of space too quickly. My 30GB iPod could have served as an alternative; however its little bulky to carry around and the "proprietary" cable that has to be tagged along with the device makes it much more difficult. Transcend and Sandisk are the 2 major vendors of USB Flash drives. I had a look at the products offered by both vendors and was more impressed with the Sandisk range. Sandisk flash drives looked much better; cute and compact. However compared to Transcend they are priced on the higher side. The other reason for choosing Sandisk was because of the 2 Year International warranty. Transcend provides lifetime warranty only at the place/country where it is bought (The one I got was bought in Taiwan :D ) After going over the entire product portfolio, I finally settled on a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro. Let's go over the specification first :)

Sudoku

by venukb on May 13, 2007

I am sure many of you know what Sudoku is and many of you are also aware of how addictive the game is.

Sudoku sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a placement puzzle, also known as Number Place in the United States. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a number from 1 through 9 in each cell of a grid, most frequently a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various numbers given in some cells (the "givens").

Even though I had heard about Sudoku from many of my friends, I never bothered to solve these puzzles;i.e. until last week :)

Since then I am completely into Sudoku

Bose SoundDock - Speakers for iPod

by venukb on April 24, 2007

Apple's iPod has become a huge cultural phenomenon similar to what Sony's walkman created few decades back. The success of iPod also has bought in a lot of players in the iPod accessories market. Copy Songs from iPod to PC

by venukb on April 7, 2007

The other day when I connected my iPod to the PC, iTunes prompted me to upgrade the firmware. I had never done a firmware upgrade before and was not sure whether the process would affect the data or not.

To be on the safer side I wanted to backup the music and the podcasts I had on the device. However there is no straightforward way to copy songs from iPod to PC.

These are some of the tools I found to accomplish the above task

Copypod - Its a vista ready app that allows you to backup music including the playlists and the rating. However Copypod comes at a price and one ...

iPhone

by venukb on January 10, 2007

I have been hearing and reading about iPhone from many months now and I guess it was one of the intensely followed product in Apple's history.

iPhone was announced by Steve Jobs on MacWorld today.

Apple's Website is also updated and you can find all the details on iPhone here:

http://www.apple.com/iphone/

(Note: The site is very slow as of now :) )

iPhone combines three products — a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching — into one small and lightweight handheld device.

iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and

MediaMonkey - AutoTag MP3

by venukb on October 10, 2006

I stumbled upon MediaMonkey few days ago and if any of you guys are managing tons of MP3, this is one cute little application you should try ! I am still trying to figure out as to how I found this ! Doesn't matter :D Managing MP3 media files is always a pain. Usually you end up with lot of duplicate files and unless the media is tagged properly, it is almost impossible to find the duplicates. However if all the MP3's are tagged properly (ID3) this problem could be solved. Manually tagging MP3 is slow and requires a lot of patience. Even when I ripped some songs of my CD collection, they were all stored as "Track01.mp3", "Track02.mp3" etc. If I copy these songs to my iPod, I will never be able to filter the tracks by Artist,Album etc. MediaMonkey helps you to AutoTag your MP3 files and saves you from the pain of manually tagging every other track in your library. Before getting into the AutoTag feature, here is the list of features of MediaMonkey MediaMonkey is a music manager and jukebox for serious music collectors and iPod users. It catalogs your CDs, OGG, WMA, MPC, FLAC, APE, WAV and MP3 audio files. It offers an intelligent tag editor which looks up missing Album Art and track information via Freedb and the web, and an automated file and directory renamer to organize your music library. It includes a CD ripper, CD/DVD Burner, and audio converter for saving music, and manual or automated playlist editors for creating music mixes. Its player automatically adjusts volume levels so that you don't have continually fiddle with the volume control and supports hundreds of Winamp plug-ins and visualizations; or if you prefer, it can use Winamp as the default player. It also includes portable audio device synchronization that allows you to quickly synch tracks and playlists with iPods and other portable audio devices. Here is how the AutoTag feature works: Select single/multiple tracks and press Ctrl+L to invoke the AutoTag feature The features makes use of the Amazon Web service. You can search for Artists,Albums etc and if any of the tracks retrieved from the service matches the tracks selected for Autotagging, it is marked automatically. For e.g.

iPod Navigation using Speech !!!

by venukb on May 10, 2006

Apple is quite fond of filing for patents, especially those that surround its widely used iPods. But who can blame Apple for doing so? Any creative or unique idea could very well turn out to be a big revenue generator for Apple, considering that iPod and music sales make up a huge portion of Apple's income.

While the new patent doesn't cover a touch-screen iPod video, it does give light into a new navigation system that Apple is working on for future iPods. Because more and more users are using iPods in situations where they are unable to look at the screen, such as while driving, Apple has made it so it is possible to navigate the iPod menu ...
