Keybreeze - Quickly launch applications

by venukb on May 30, 2007

The "Start Menu" on my PC generally extends upto 3-4 columns; thanks to all the software/tools that I install/try out.

[Note: Screen width is set to 1280 pixels :)]

On the top of this, Windows XP has a totally useless Start Menu; If I have to quickly launch an application, I spend more time searching for it rather than using it !

Colibri did come to my rescue; Using Colibri I could quickly launch applications and control panel widgets.

Read my earlier post to know more about Colibri

Launchy is another small little app which helps in quickly launching applications. Unlike Colibri, Launchy also allows you to index folders via which you can even quickly

3 Hundred !!

by venukb on May 27, 2007

No I am not talking about the recent film 300; I am referring to an amazing video on Youtube titled : 100 Movies, 100 Quotes and 100 Numbers. The "100 Numbers" is what makes the video special. I am not sure how the the creator of the video managed to find references to these numbers. Is there any place where the movie scripts are put online ? The creator of the video also has put in the list of the movies here P.S. Thanks to Vasu for sharing the video link :)

Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn

by venukb on May 27, 2007

I was a die hard fan of Suse Linux and was hesitant to try other Linux distributions.

Suse 10.1 worked flawlessly on my laptop and I was able to even get the Xgl working on my ATI Radeon X700 graphics card.

Post on SuseSuse 10.1Xgl Working on SuseXGL on Suse - Photoset

The other Linux distribution that is very popular among geeks is Ubuntu. My friend Harish recently shifted to Ubuntu and this further motivated me to try out Ubuntu.

Unlike Suse distribution which is around 4GB, Ubuntu 7.04 codenamed Fiesty Fawn

Plagiarism - My First Experience

by venukb on May 24, 2007

Few months back I had written a post of describing the features of Airtel Data Card. It turned out to be a hugely popular post(with 143 comments); everyday the site gets a lot of unique visitors to this post. Most of the visitors are referred either by Google or Yahoo Search (The former almost bringing in 90% of the visitors). I was wondering why Live Search was not referring to this post. A search for "Airtel Data Card" on Live Search took me to this post on TechTime http://techtime.co.in/thetech/data-card-from-airtel.html Compare the contents of the above post with the one I wrote. The author has done ...

Undelete PLUS - Best Undelete Software

by venukb on May 24, 2007

When you delete a file in Windows Explorer or My Computer, the file is put into the Recycle Bin. The file remains in the Recycle Bin until you empty the Recycle Bin or restore the file.

If the files are deleted from the Recycle bin or if you empty the recycle bin, the files are "permanently" lost.

I myself have developed a habit of deleting every other file using "Shift+Delete". I rarely move the files to Recycle Bin. And many times I have accidentally deleted few important files/folders.

The only way to recover these "permanently" deleted files is to use an "undelete" software. There are lot of undelete software's out there in the

HowTo: Tail Files in Eclipse IDE

by venukb on May 19, 2007

Unix 'tail' command is used to display the last few lines of a file. The '-f' parameter makes the utility more useful in the sense that it allows you to 'follow' the output of the file.

As and when additional lines are added to the file, they are displayed on the terminal. The follow parameter '-f' is very useful in monitoring the log files.

Tail For Win32 is a MFC based tool to accomplish the 'tail' functionality on Windows. The program is written in C++ using MFC, and uses Win32 file change notifications to monitor when a file changes.

Eclipse IDE in recent years has gained immense popularity and has become the default development

Search Result Link screwed by Google Personalized Search ?

by venukb on May 17, 2007

Google Personalized Search which was out of Beta this February was enabled by default for every Google account. Once you login to your Google Account, your entire "Web History" is being recorded by Google. The recording is not just limited to Google Search; in fact searches across the various Google services such as Image Search, Map Search etc are recorded. This web history could be used by Google to improve the search results. For users it does provide useful information regarding the search done over the period of time(Trends). In fact you can search for items within your search history :) However the problem I have observed from the past few weeks is that this new personalized ...

Sudoku

by venukb on May 13, 2007

I am sure many of you know what Sudoku is and many of you are also aware of how addictive the game is.

Sudoku sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a placement puzzle, also known as Number Place in the United States. The aim of the puzzle is to enter a number from 1 through 9 in each cell of a grid, most frequently a 9×9 grid made up of 3×3 subgrids (called "regions"), starting with various numbers given in some cells (the "givens").

Even though I had heard about Sudoku from many of my friends, I never bothered to solve these puzzles;i.e. until last week :)

Since then I am completely into Sudoku
