AutoHide Firefox Extension

by venukb on November 29, 2006

In most of the browsers, toolbars take a lot of space on the display. You can either remove/hide the toolbars or switch to Full Screen Mode.

In the latest version of Firefox (Version 2.0) the Full Screen mode will display only the Navigation Toolbar. However you are forced to switch back to the normal view if you want to access features in other hidden toolbars.

AutoHide is a nice little Firefox Extension which gives you more control of the browser in full screen mode.

Using the extension customization dialog, you can configure "Autohide" setting for individual toolbars. The plugin is intelligent in the sense that when you install a new

More Vista Wallpapers

by venukb on November 26, 2006

In one of my previous post I had linked to Windows Vista Wallpapers shared by Stephen Silber.

Haklabs has shared another set of 54 photos from Vista RTM build. Download it here !

Its hosted on Rapidshare;Wonder why people use this sharing service, I would recommend using AMD's Streamload for sharing big files !

Brajeshwar has created another Windows Vista Wallpaper pack and has around 70 photos ! As far as I know the official release has around 54 images, I am not sure about the extra 16 images in this pack :)

I want Windows XP SP3

by venukb on November 26, 2006

This might sound crazy; but I make it a point to reinstall Windows every 6-8 months. I install a lot of tools/applications and over the period of time the PC becomes very slow. Even if I do DiskCleanup and Registry cleanup, its not of much use ! Some of the steps I take before reinstalling Windows 1. Take a snapshot of the Start Menu Programs ! It does help in 2. Check/Backup files in My Documents/Desktop. (Backing up the entire user profile directory might make more sense) 3. Check Program Files (Many a times I have lost important files such as the save files of Games, local blog data etc) 4. Use a tool/browser plugin like Google Browser Sych to backup your browser ...

The Last Legion

by venukb on November 21, 2006

Check out the trailer of The Last Legion starring Aishwarya Rai !

I never knew till now that she was starring in a Hollywood movie. If you saw the trailer completely one thing that you will notice immediately is the dialogue delivery by Aishwarya Rai ! Sounds pathetic !  Doesn't it ?

This is the comment left on IMDB by a viewer who saw an early preview of this movie:

I saw an early screening of this movie. I went because I think Ben Kinglsey is a great actor so I thought it would b a great movie. I was dead wrong. My 2 friends as well as my brother and sister laughed throughout

QWERTY Warriors

by venukb on November 19, 2006

My hands are aching as I type this post ! All credit for the pain goes to this game called QWERTY Warriors !

The game is pathetically addictive and is supposed to improve your typing speed !

When I took the "Typing Test" some time back I was impressed by my own abilities. However I have not

Launchy - Quicksilver for Windows ?

by venukb on November 16, 2006

One of the features I liked in Google Desktop was the Quick search. Using this, I could quickly invoke the programs in the Start Menu, other than searching the files in my computer.

Colibri was a nice alternative to GD's Quick Search. You can read more about Colibri here.

Launchy is another nice little open source tool to accomplish the same functionality.

Launchy is the most efficient way to open files, folders, and programs on your computer

The startup of the program is kind of weird in the sense that it hides in the background and there is no way to know that the program is running.

(Unlinke Launchy, Colibri sits in the taskbar to let you know that it is running in the background!)

Alt + Space invokes the Launchy widget.

I have checked the copyright and its free of charge. Download PDF(1.18MB) P.S. The search for this document was triggered by the recent installation of Suse 10.1. :).
